Free Brake Check In Stapleford Reveals Worn Brakes And Tyres
Looking for a free brake check in Stapleford? Recently, a customer brought their 2019 Vauxhall Corsa to Lindleys Autocentres Stapleford after becoming concerned about the condition of the vehicle’s brakes. While there were no warning lights on the dashboard, they wanted peace of mind before undertaking several longer journeys.
What started as a routine free brake check quickly highlighted a number of issues that required attention.

Lindleys Autocentres Stapleford provides MOTs, servicing, tyres, brake repairs and vehicle diagnostics for motorists across Stapleford, Sandiacre, Toton and surrounding areas.
Free Brake Check Stapleford: What We Found
Following a thorough inspection by one of our technicians, we found the front brake pads had worn down to approximately 1.5mm of friction material remaining.
Whilst this is still above the metal backing plate, it is approaching the point where replacement is essential to maintain safe braking performance and avoid unnecessary wear to other braking components.
We also measured the front brake discs, which were found to be within the manufacturer’s minimum thickness specification at 20.24mm. However, during the inspection we identified corrosion on the inner face of the brake discs.
Although the discs were technically still serviceable, the combination of heavily worn brake pads and corrosion on the braking surface meant that replacing the discs and pads together represented the most sensible long-term repair.

During the inspection, our technician found front brake pads worn to approximately 1.5mm remaining and corrosion present on the inner face of the brake disc.
The Importance Of Looking Beyond The Brakes
As part of our vehicle health check process at Lindleys Stapleford, we also inspected the condition of the tyres.
This revealed something the customer hadn’t been expecting.
All four tyres were showing significant wear and were approaching replacement levels. Using our tread depth gauge, we were able to demonstrate the remaining tread depth and explain why replacement would soon be necessary.
Tyres are often overlooked because wear occurs gradually over thousands of miles. Many drivers don’t notice the reduction in grip until wet weather arrives or their vehicle undergoes an MOT inspection.
With the tyres nearing the end of their service life, the customer decided it made sense to replace them at the same time as the brake work.

Our inspection also revealed significant tyre wear across all four tyres, with replacement recommended to maintain safe braking and wet-weather performance.
Why Worn Brakes And Tyres Matter
Brakes and tyres are two of the most important safety components on any vehicle.
Even a relatively modern car such as this Vauxhall Corsa can experience reduced braking performance if pads become excessively worn or if tyre tread levels fall too low.
Common signs that your brakes may require attention include:
- Squealing or grinding noises
- Increased stopping distances
- Vibration through the brake pedal
- A vehicle pulling to one side under braking
- A brake warning light appearing on the dashboard
Similarly, worn tyres can increase stopping distances, particularly in wet conditions, whilst also increasing the likelihood of an MOT advisory or failure.
Repairs Completed At Our Stapleford Branch
After discussing our findings with the customer, our Stapleford team carried out the following work:
- Replacement front brake discs
- Replacement front brake pads
- Supply and fitting of four new tyres
Once completed, the vehicle was road tested to ensure everything was operating correctly before being returned to the customer.
