WHEN AN EV BATTERY CHECK MAKES SENSE
EV servicing, MOTs and tyres too
We look after electric vehicles every day at branches across Nottinghamshire. Servicing, MOTs, tyres and repairs, all without dealer prices.
WHAT IS AN EV BATTERY HEALTH CHECK?
Your EV’s high-voltage battery slowly loses a little capacity as it ages. Its state of health (SoH) shows how much of the original capacity is left. It is also the single biggest factor in what a used electric car is worth.
Our technicians connect OE (original equipment) diagnostic equipment to your car and read the battery’s true condition straight from its battery management system. No guesswork, and no relying on the dashboard range estimate. You get the results explained in plain English, and a written report to keep. Booking your EV’s MOT at Colwick? We can do both in the same visit.

EV BATTERY QUESTIONS ANSWERED
What happens in an EV battery health check?
We connect OE diagnostic equipment to your car and read the battery’s state of health directly from its battery management system. A technician explains the results on the spot, and you take away a written report.
How much does an EV battery health check cost?
£70, fixed. That includes the check and your written battery health report.
How charged does the battery need to be?
Please arrive with at least 50% charge. The test needs that to give an accurate reading, and below it we may not be able to run the check that day.
Where can I get my EV battery checked?
At our Colwick centre: Little Tennis Street South, Colwick, Nottingham NG2 4EU. A few minutes from the city centre, with parking on site.
How long does an EV battery health check take?
Around 30 minutes. You are welcome to wait, or leave the car with us and we will call when it is ready.
Can I add this to my EV MOT?
Yes. We MOT electric vehicles at Colwick, so the battery health check can be done in the same visit. Add it when you book online, mention it on the phone, or ask at the desk.
Do electric car batteries degrade over time?
Yes, gradually. Most modern EVs lose capacity slowly, but no two cars age the same. Mileage, age and charging habits all play a part, which is why reading your actual battery beats any rule of thumb.
What is a good state of health for an EV battery?
There is no official pass mark. Newer cars typically sit in the high 90s, and most manufacturer warranties step in if capacity falls below around 70%. Your report shows exactly where your battery sits, and we will talk you through what it means.
Is battery health checked in an MOT?
No. An MOT covers safety items like brakes, tyres and lights. It does not measure battery capacity or condition, even on an electric car.
Which electric cars can you test?
All major makes and models. If you are not sure about yours, call our Colwick team on 0115 727 0055.
