SIGNS YOU HAVE A PUNCTURE

Tyre Pressure Warning Light

The warning light on your dashboard is often the first sign a tyre is losing air.

Losing Air Every Few Days

Topping up the same tyre again and again usually means a slow puncture.

Screw Or Nail In The Tread

Leave it where it is and get it checked. Pulling it out can turn a slow leak into a flat.

Car Pulling To One Side

A soft tyre can make the steering pull or feel heavier than usual.

Flat tyre? Please don’t drive on it

Driving on a flat tyre is unsafe, and even a short distance usually damages it from the inside so it can no longer be repaired. Our mobile fitters can come to you instead.

CAN MY TYRE BE REPAIRED?

Most punctures in the main tread can be repaired. Before we repair anything, our technicians check the tyre properly, inside and out, because damage you can’t see from the outside decides whether a repair is safe.

We can usually repair a tyre if:

  • the puncture is in the central three-quarters of the tread
  • the tread is above the legal minimum of 1.6mm
  • there’s no previous repair close to the puncture
  • there’s no sidewall or shoulder damage
  • it hasn’t been driven on while flat
  • the rubber isn’t aged or cracked
  • it isn’t a run-flat tyre

If a repair isn’t safe, we’ll show you why and give you a clear price for a replacement tyre before any work is done.

A screw in the main tread. If the inside of the tyre is undamaged, this is the kind we can usually repair.

Sidewall damage on a part worn tyre with a chunk of rubber missing and further damage around the bead area

Sidewall damage like this can’t be safely repaired, so the tyre has to be replaced.

PUNCTURE REPAIR QUESTIONS ANSWERED

How much does a puncture repair cost?

A puncture repair is £29 at any of our tyre centres in and around Nottingham. If the tyre can’t be safely repaired, we’ll tell you why and give you a clear price for a replacement before any work is done.

Can you repair a puncture at my home or work?

Yes. Our mobile tyre fitters cover Nottinghamshire and bring repair equipment and a replacement tyre with them, so if a repair isn’t safe we can usually replace the tyre there and then. A mobile puncture repair is £36.

Can my tyre be repaired?

Usually, if the puncture is in the central three-quarters of the tread, the tread is above 1.6mm, and there’s no sidewall damage, previous repair nearby or damage from being driven on flat. We don’t repair run-flat tyres. We check every tyre inside and out before we repair it.

Can you repair a screw or nail in my tyre?

Usually, yes, if it’s in the main tread area. Leave it in place and get it checked as soon as you can. Pulling it out tends to let the air out much faster.

What is a slow puncture?

A small leak, often from a nail or screw, that lets air out over days rather than minutes. If you keep topping up the same tyre, have it checked. Running on a soft tyre wears it faster and makes the car less stable.

Can I drive on a flat tyre?

We wouldn’t advise it. It’s unsafe, and driving even a short distance on a flat usually damages the tyre so it can no longer be repaired. Fit your spare if you have one, or book our mobile service and we’ll come to you.

Can run-flat tyres be repaired?

No, we don’t repair run-flat tyres. If yours has a puncture, we’ll give you a clear price for a replacement before any work is done.

I used a tyre sealant kit. Can it still be repaired?

Often, yes, but please tell us when you book. The sealant has to be cleaned out before we can inspect the tyre, and it can clog the tyre pressure sensor inside the wheel.
