Yes. On cars first used from January 2012, a TPMS warning light that indicates a fault is an automatic MOT failure. This has been part of the MOT test since January 2015.

Tyre fitting can disturb or damage a sensor, and some cars need the system re-programming after a tyre change. If the light has appeared after new tyres, bring the car in – we can read the sensors and find out exactly which one is at fault.

Usually 5-7 years. The battery is sealed inside the sensor, so when it runs out the whole sensor is replaced. As cars age, it’s common for sensors to fail one at a time.

Check your tyre pressures as soon as possible – the light can mean a tyre is losing air. If pressures look fine but the light stays on or flashes, a sensor has likely failed. Either way, a free TPMS check will tell you what’s going on.

Slightly. Teslas and many newer EVs automatically recognise and calibrate their sensors after a tyre change, so there’s usually no manual reset. But the sensors themselves still run on sealed batteries and still fail with age. We work on Teslas regularly and can supply and fit the correct replacement sensor for your model.
