How long is a Ford Transit van?
The Ford Transit van is a staple of British roads, and it’s unlikely you’d go an entire car journey without seeing at least one of them. However, did you know that there’s more than one version available with their own individual style and features?
Here, we will explore the history of the Transit van and take a look at the range of models available. Additionally, we’ll talk about how services and MOTs are carried out at Lindleys Autocentres.
History of the Ford Transit van
Although it’s somewhat of a British national treasure, you might be surprised to find out that the Transit has some roots in Germany. This iconic motor was born out of a partnership between the UK and Germany’s Ford branches and launched in Britain in 1965 – making it an impressive 60 years old.
It started out with the name ‘Project Redcap’, but it soon became the first Ford product to be developed throughout Europe. At the time, the first vehicle burst onto the market, the most expensive Transit on offer was a 15 seat Custom bus model, coming in at £997!
Cut to present day, and the Transit is as popular as ever, and has been a bestseller for over 40 years.
