What could be more infuriating than your car breaking down? How about your car breaking down and then you finding out that it was entirely unavoidable? It’s frustrating but it’s true, but if it has happened to you, it may comfort you to know that you’re not alone. At Lindley’s Autocentres, we conduct all manner of car repairs at our garage in Nottingham. Here are some of the more common causes of breakdown we see, and how you can avoid them.
Flat or faulty battery
As many as 20% of vehicle breakdowns each year are caused by a drained or faulty battery. This is often caused by leaving your lights on when you get out of the car at night, but it is also extremely common during the winter, as the cold weather can cause a battery to lose its charge. When your car is serviced, we check your battery for any faults, however, if it’s been a while since your last service, you might want to think about bringing your car to our garage in Nottingham for a winter check.
Flat tyres or damaged wheels
Sometimes a flat tyre is completely unavoidable, in the case of nails or other debris on the road. However, simple tyre maintenance can help to avoid most cases of flat or damaged tyres. Be sure to check your tyres regularly for any lumps or bumps or obvious defects and regularly check that your tyres are inflated according to manufacturer requirements.
The exhaust is something we tend to overlook in car maintenance. The trouble is that by the time you notice a problem with your exhaust, it has usually caused a more serious problem with the engine. If your exhaust is making a lot of noise, it’s likely there’s a hole releasing fumes before it gets to your exhaust pipe. If you’re worried your car might have this problem, get your car booked in to our Nottingham garage for an exhaust check as soon as you can.
Unfortunately, problems with a starter motor don’t tend to make themselves known until your car fails to start. Regular maintenance checks can help prevent your starter motor failing. If you’re not sure what to look for, Lindley’s are happy to check it over for you.
In addition to repairs, Lindley’s also conduct a number of preventative checks on your car. If you want to avoid breaking down, or you have any concerns with your car, bring it along to our garage in Nottingham and there are a number of checks we can perform to make sure your car is in good shape. This includes:
- Battery Check
- Exhaust Check
- Brake Check
- Tyre Check
Of course the best way to keep your car in good shape is to make sure you book it in for a regular service, according to your manufacturer’s recommendations. To book a battery check, exhaust check or brake check at our Nottingham garage, or to book your full service, contact Lindley’s today.
