CARLTON lad, Jacob Mitchell, started his apprenticeship with Lindleys Autocentres earlier this year, and he hasn’t looked back since.
Training with Remit Group and attending block release dates at its dedicated Automotive Academy in Derby, Jacob is taking his Level 3 Light Vehicle Technician qualification, while working at Lindleys in West Bridgford, Nottingham.
“I did start my training at a college in Nottingham, but I didn’t feel like I was getting anywhere with it there.
“It just didn’t work for me, I much prefer the block release training with Remit.
“The Academy is awesome and we have the chance to get stuck into our work, and get a lot done while we’re there. The facilities are really good and we get to use lots of good quality equipment, not to mention there’s a nice space to chill out when we’re on lunch or a break. I get lots of help from my Remit Development Coach too when he visits me at work.”
Jacob has had a great start to his career working with Lindleys. “I always wanted to do this. My Dad is an engineer, and I grew up on films like The Fast and the Furious, everything around me was inspiring me to do it.
“Lindleys is my happy place called work. I do have a mentor, Ash, but everyone here is like my mentor, anyone will help you out if you ask. Some days when I’m not even supposed to be in, I’ll come in to help out anyway. I just want to learn and get better at what I do.
“When I’ve done my apprenticeship, I do want to look at getting my MOT licence and maybe do some electric vehicle training, to help keep me up to date with all the new cars being built. But mainly I just want to get qualified and become the best I can be in my role here.”
Remit Automotive Development Director, Mick Pilling, said: “We enjoy working with Lindleys and their apprentices. It’s a great family company and Jacob is clearly benefiting from the positive culture they instill into all of their branches.
“As training provider, we are always there to provide support to every one of our apprentices, whether it’s on a learning level or a personal one. It’s fantastic to see how much Jacob is enjoying his role and training so far. It makes a huge difference to someone’s progress, when they are so passionate about their apprenticeship.”
